GritRune is available on the App Store. This policy describes the current public app and the implemented version 1.4 preview. Features identified as part of 1.4 are still in testing and are not yet in the public App Store download.
GritRune stores workout information locally on your device and does not send it to a developer-operated backend.

1. Overview
GritRune is built to work without an account, developer-operated backend, analytics, advertising, or tracking. Workout tracking and progression work offline. The app connects only to Apple’s App Store services when it loads, purchases, or restores the optional GritRune Pro in-app purchase.
The developer does not collect or receive your workout history, routines, exercise data, personal records, progression, backups, or preferences.
2. Information stored on the device
GritRune stores the following information locally, using Apple’s SwiftData framework and system preferences:
- Workout routines, exercises, sessions, and individual sets (weight, repetitions, warm-up state, completion)
- Workout weight, stored canonically in kilograms regardless of your selected display unit
- Progression state: XP, level, streaks, personal records, and Weekly Goal / Training Path progress
- Player name and app preferences (units, rest timer defaults, sound, haptics, appearance, Quest Card options)
- In version 1.4: custom Training Path definitions and their saved revisions, and your locally followed lifts for Forge Record
Forge Record in version 1.4 reads your existing workout history on-device. It does not upload that history or replace the recorded weights, personal records, or earned XP.
This data is stored in the app’s private on-device storage. GritRune does not use iCloud, CloudKit, or any other sync service, and has no App Group shared with another app. Normal Apple device backups may include this local app data according to your iOS and iCloud settings; that backup and restore process is controlled by Apple and iOS, not by GritRune.
3. Full Backup and Data Export
GritRune offers two separate, user-initiated ways to create a local file from your data, both reachable from Profile → Settings → Your Data:
- Full Backup is a restorable JSON file containing your complete workout history, canonical weight data, progression, and preferences, protected by a checksum. It is not encrypted. Restoring a Full Backup replaces your current data after you review a preview and confirm.
- Data Export is a separate readable JSON file for your own records. It is intentionally not restorable.
Both files are created and stored on your device. GritRune does not upload either file anywhere; if you share a backup or export file (for example through the iOS share sheet to Files, AirDrop, or Mail), that transfer happens under your explicit direction and is subject to the destination service’s own handling.
Version 1.4 Full Backup includes custom Training Paths and their saved revisions. The Forge Record followed-lifts list is a local display preference and is not included. App Store purchase ownership is checked through StoreKit and is never stored in a Full Backup.
4. Quest Card
Quest Card generates a shareable workout summary image entirely on your device from an immutable snapshot of a completed workout. Generating or sharing a Quest Card does not alter your workout history, records, or progression, and no workout data is uploaded. You choose what the card shows (such as date or Weekly Goal progress) before sharing or saving it.
5. Notifications and Live Activities
GritRune’s rest-timer alerts and Live Activity (Dynamic Island / Lock Screen) run entirely on-device using Apple’s local notification and ActivityKit frameworks. GritRune does not use a remote push-notification server. Notification permission is optional and is only requested after you explicitly enable Rest Timer Alerts in Profile → Settings; you can change it at any time in iOS Settings.
6. Photos permission
GritRune requests permission to add photos to your library only when you explicitly choose to save a Quest Card or Character Card image. It does not request permission to read your existing photo library.
7. Analytics, advertising, and tracking
GritRune contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting service, no behavioural or cross-app tracking, and no third-party software dependencies of any kind. It does not sell personal data and does not build a marketing profile.
8. Accounts, cloud storage, and payments
GritRune has no account, login, or developer-operated cloud storage. It offers an optional one-time, non-consumable GritRune Pro purchase for premium Character Card personalization, with Custom Training Paths and Forge Record added in version 1.4. Apple processes the purchase through the App Store under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. GritRune receives the resulting product and entitlement status through StoreKit; the developer does not receive payment-card information, and no workout data is sent with the purchase.
9. Data deletion
Profile → Settings → Your Data includes a Delete All Data option that removes GritRune’s stored workout history, progression, and preferences from the app, and starts fresh state. It does not remove App Store ownership of GritRune Pro; an eligible purchase remains restorable through Profile → Settings → Restore Purchases.
Deleting the app removes GritRune’s local data from that iPhone. Existing Apple device backups may retain a copy until you delete the backup or it expires under Apple’s policies. The developer cannot retrieve or delete those records because the developer does not possess them.
10. Children
GritRune is not directed to children under 13 or the applicable minimum age of digital consent. The app and this website do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Third-party services
GritRune’s iOS app uses Apple’s StoreKit framework only for App Store product information, purchase, entitlement, and restore handling. It contains no third-party SDK and does not send workout data to Apple, the developer, or another service. Apple’s App Store may process Apple Account, payment, transaction, and storefront information under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy.
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process website request and operational data (such as IP address, browser and network information, requested URLs, timestamps, and security signals) to host, secure, and operate the website. Cloudflare does not operate the GritRune iOS app or receive its local workout data.
12. Website privacy
This marketing website does not include developer-added analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, newsletter forms, account creation, or profiling cookies. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare’s hosting and security layers may process request data such as IP address, browser and network information, requested URLs, timestamps, security signals, and operational logs, and may set strictly necessary security cookies. These services operate under Cloudflare’s own terms and privacy policy. The developer does not use this information for marketing or visitor profiling.
13. International access
This website may be hosted or processed in countries outside your location through the hosting provider. No specific hosting country or EU-only data-residency commitment is stated.
14. User rights and contact
Because the developer does not receive app records, the developer generally cannot access, correct, export, or delete those local records remotely.

15. Changes
This policy may be updated when the app, this website, or legal requirements change, and will be reviewed again before any public release. The effective date shown at the top will be updated when a revised policy takes effect.
